3 EASY WAYS TO RESET YOUR LIFE FOR 2023

The new year is a great time to start setting goals and striving to improve yourself.

As I look back to 2022 there were 3 key things that I did that changed my life.

Don’t get my wrong my life isn’t always cupcakes and rainbows, raising kids and running a farm is hard work.

I am incredibly grateful for each and every moment, as they have all shaped and molded me into the person I am today.

While I am far from perfect, 6 kids and a farm has changed me.

I think that I have become a better person - less Type A, less stressed out, less judgey, less snappy.

Along with farming and raising kids, I have spent a tremendous amount of time working on my health.

So this is lesson #1: I believe that our mindset, and the health state our body shape us into the person we were meant to become.

It's not one or the other - it's both.

Being in a healthy systemic state increases our chances of *responding* calmly and not immediately *reacting* with anger or aggression.

Being more 'chill' requires a mindset to act that way.

All of our thoughts drive our actions and you have the CHOICE to respond to each situation as you so choose.

Our body does not work in parts - it operates as a system. And the overall state of that system impacts how all the different parts run.

The state of your health impacts your resilience to stress and how you react during stressful experiences.

Farming and raising kids brings on a lot of room for potentially stressful situations.

I have to deal with mother nature, crops failing, animals dying, and kids screaming.

But I choose how I feel and act.

My kids all screaming because they want supper could make me feel overwhelmed. Plus if I haven’t eaten properly all day that will just add to my body not feeling well.

Instead I choose to nourish my body and to choose a more positive thought that will actually benefit me. “They are kids and I can’t control their crying, but I can make scrambled eggs in less then 5 minutes and they will all be satisfied”.

Now of course, the amount of stress you voluntarily pile into your stress bucket plays a huge role and you have the choice to change that too.

Which brings me to lesson #2: it is okay to say no and to set boundaries. You can't do it all, and you shouldn't expect yourself to. Moms are not supposed to be superhuman.

Not going to lie - this one took me a long time to recognize, accept, and implement. I still think I am superhuman ;)

But now that I have set clear boundaries - there is no going back.

Of course I challenge myself, and I set big goals.

But I am comfortable with and use the word NO frequently.

In fact, my current favorite way to say no to something I know I can't add to my plate right now is - "Sorry, I do not have the resources for that right now."

IT'S OKAY TO SAY NO!

It's okay to let others do things for you. You don't have to 'do it all'!

As a mom I know you pile on the guilt, but are you really guilty of doing something wrong?

Most of the time your not, and you can ask for help.

Prioritize yourself, your health, your boundaries, your mindset, and trust me your life will change.

Lesson #3: your tribe is vital. What's the point of accomplishing things if you don't get to accomplish them with others?

Surrounding yourself with like-minded people who believe in you, respect your life choices, and encourage you to do great things is vital.

And getting support and help from the right people is key to reaching your goals, feeling less stressed, and becoming the person you want to become.

This year has significantly changed our family and farm because of the people that we surrounded ourselves with.

And this is something I will never take for granted. I am so blessed to have these incredible people in my life, that I am fortunate to spend time with them daily.

So, two of my own personal goals for 2023 are to 1) nourish my mind, body, soul before anyone else 2) read more (health books, farm books, and just books for fun).

I'd love to hear from you: What are your goals for 2023?
